Cadiz ( pronounced as Cadith ) is a splendid city that has once served as home to bona fide voyagers like Ferdinand Magellan and Amerigo Vespucci . Cadiz is close to Seville, another beautiful city of Spain, thus it is not a wonder that it is a favorite harbor among elegant cruise ships. In fact, the number of cruise ships that dock in this city reaches up to almost 4 dozens in just a month.

Cadiz may be the oldest European city. The Phoenicians called it GADIR when they settled in the area in 1100 BC. They traded Baltic amber, British tin, and Spanish silver for a living. In the latter years, the Carthaginians made its way to the city. Afterwards, Cadiz became a marine port for the Romans for a while. Consequently, the Romans lost its hold over the city, then the occupancy of the Visgoths and Moors started(which didn t do much for the city s stature). In 1262, Alfonso X took over.
